Seed Bombs

Here you have in the palm of your hand a little revolution, something that can change the face of the earth, something that contains the early stages of a field of wild flowers and edible crops.

A Seed Bomb, also known as the guerilla grenade, is a small ball made up of a combination of compost, clay and seeds to be tossed and thrown around for future germination.  The clay and compost would keep the seeds dormant until their environmental needs (water, temperature…) are met.  after weeks, the first seedlings will start to make their way through the seed bomb, rooting into the soil. The seedlings will then grow into mature plants attracting pollinators, insects and wildlife while improving soil health, water quality & preventing erosions. They can change the natural structure of an area in a single generation and can make ugly forgotten land bloom again in one fell swoop!

A seed bomb is a little ball of life and comes with a responsibility to choose the right plants and be utilized correctly. Selecting non-native seeds for your seed bombs will only do harm to the environment; instead, look for native wildflowers and herbs in the region that are native and local to the area you are planting them in. You have to consider also the environment where you choose to launch your seed bomb. Observe where the herb/plant grows and throw the seed bomb in a similar environment (Shady/Full sun, Rocky/Sandy, Dry/Wet area…). The Best time to throw our bombs is during raining season!

To make your seed bomb, combine one cup of seeds with five cups of compost and two to three cups of clay soil. Slowly add enough water to make the mixture sticky while mixing with your hands. Form the mixture into spherical balls, then set them aside to dry in a sunny area. My favorite seeds to use are clover, Dandelions, purslane, thyme & sage.

Today with all that has been happening around, seed bombing is the only bombing that our planet needs!
