We were taught to run away from our cold and fevers and try to suppress the symptoms once they start showing up by the most common way, take a Panadol! What we fail to realize is that fever is our life force’s brilliant force at work!
When a virus invades our body, our immune system sends an alarm to the brain, which then closes skin pores, elevates body temperature, and activates the immune system to cook the virus out by unraveling its protein structures, and eventually know how to protect itself!
When we are taking any suppressive medicine such as Panadol, we are disrupting this process and shutting down all our bodies inflammatory processes and eventually delaying our healing ..
Instead, in the first stages of fever, we need to help our body by using stimulant herbs that induces sweating and help release this internal heat .. They are the spicy pungent ones that helps stimulate circulations, warm up our core and move the heat and blood to the surface: Black pepper, cayenne, clove, garlic, ginger, onions, oregano, thyme… my favorite is cacao with ginger, turmeric and black pepper!
In its next stage (after the excess has been expelled from the body) it’s good to support our body with relaxant herbs that eases the tension of the body while keep on releasing the internal heat such as: Lemon balm, peppermint, spearmint, yarrow
Another favorite remedy for high fever is radishes (works miracles on kids too)! Not only does it decrease the body’s temperature, it has high pro & prebiotic content, eliminates toxins & helps purify the blood.
You should always monitor your fever. Never let a high fever (40deg.) linger for too much heat can cause brain damage and seizures!
